An Overview of the Different Types of Cosmetics
Cosmetics have been around for almost six thousand years and have become an invaluable tool for every woman who wishes to enhance her appearance. While most people understand cosmetics to mean facial makeup, they can also encompass skin and hair care products such as skin care lotions and conditioners. Here is an overview of some of the major types of cosmetics.
Foundation is applied to the face and used to give the complexion an even color, although they can also be used to give the wearer a different skin tone. There are three major types of foundation based on opacity: sheer, which is the least noticeable; medium, which provides light coverage and can be supplemented with powder or other products for heavier coverage; and heavy, which covers up any skin imperfections and is on a par with a concealer. Foundation comes in liquid, cream or powder and is available for all skin types.
Blush-on is used to define cheekbones, add color to the complexion and emphasize certain areas of the face. They are also available as creams, powders, liquids and gel and in a wide variety of shades to match all skin tones.
Mascara is used on eyelashes to make them thicker or add more volume. There is also waterproof mascara intended to prevent smudging and non-clumping mascara that ensures that the product is distributed evenly on the lashes.
Eye shadow is available in various colors and is used to change the appearance of your eyes. Sheer eye shadow provides just a hint of color to the eyelid while shimmery eye shadow gives a slightly shiny look to your eyes. While eye shadow is usually available in powder form, it can also be bought as a cream or a liquid, which is appropriate for those with normal to dry skin, and matte, which has strong colors and is suitable for all skin types.
Finally, lipstick is used to add color to the lips, as well as to give them more volume. They are available in a wide variety of shades from sheer to matte that provides more intense color. Some lipsticks also have moisturizing ingredients for women with dry lips to prevent chafing.
At night take care to remove make-up, cleanse your face, and apply any anti wrinkle treatments you are fond of. Evening is also a fine time for washing hair with anti dandruff shampoo, to decrease the possibility of white flecks on your work clothes in the morning.
