Overview of Options for Treating Wrinkles

When it comes to treating wrinkles, there are a wide variety of options to choose from. Below is a breakdown on the types of treatments that are available with a basic description of each.

  1. Surgical procedures: There are surgical procedures that treat signs of aging that are performed by a surgeon or dermatologist. These procedures are on the more invasive side of the spectrum and require a recovery time ranging from days to weeks. Some people prefer this method since it only involves a one-shot treatment that has long lasting results. One drawback to surgical procedures it that these procedures can be very expensive. If you decide to use a dermatological or surgical procedure make sure you take your time and find the right medical professional for your procedure, don’t rush into anything and most importantly, be patient!
  2. Fillers: Fillers are compounds that can be injected directly into the skin by a dermatologist. These usually require only one treatment at a time. However, the results of a filler only last for a year or so, so multiple treatments are needed over the longer term. Filler treatments have very little to no recovery time. These treatments are not as expensive as the surgical option but they are a bit more expensive than using a topical product.
  3. Serums and creams: Serums and creams are applied topically over time and are the cheapest of the Anti Aging Skin Products that are available. These treatments take longer to see results. If you use these products regularly over several weeks, you will see results over time. Here are a few ingredients to look for if you choose to go with an anti wrinkle cream.
  • Vitamin C is a good ingredient to treat all kinds of wrinkles. When treating eye wrinkles, make sure to choose a product which contains Vitamin C at lower concentrations. This ingredient can be irritating to the sensitive areas under the eye.
  • Peptides are another good ingredient to look for in a wrinkle cream. There are many different kinds of peptides (for example, copper peptides). Just look for an ingredient listed as a peptide somewhere on the ingredient list.
  • Coenzyme Q10 is a great ingredient for wrinkles in general and in a good Eye Wrinkles Cream in particular. This enzyme is great for under the eyes as it is very gentle and does not irritate the skin.

IPL Photorejuvenation: Benefits, Contraindications and Side Effects

The intense pulsed light treatment is a procedure lasting about 30 minutes in which pulses of intense light (IPL) are used to penetrate under the skin. Also called photorejuvenation, the intense pulsed light treatment causes narrowing of blood vessels and collagen, reducing wrinkles and redness. The procedure involves only a small annoyance, while redness and small bruises sometimes appear, they go away shortly after the session. The benefits of pulsed light  gradually become visible during the weeks of treatment.

The contraindications of the pulsed light is not a major impediment to exploiting its effect and to obtain satisfactory results. Contraindications are indeed mainly related to pregnancy, open wounds, skin cancer or very pronounced scars. If you are honest with your doctor about any health related issue you have or had in the past, there will be no complications.

Side effects of pulsed light are light and will resolve themselves within hours or days. The most common side effect is redness of the face. The small capillaries in fact may appear more conspicuously after treatment, but do not worry, it’s a common thing that goes away immediately. Small bruises rarely form, but these will also disappear in a few days. Permanent effects caused by pulsed light are also very rare. Blistering, bleeding, scarring or hypo / hyper pigmentation have also been reported in very few cases.

The benefits of pulsed light cover almost the entire spectrum of cosmetic dermatology and may be helpful for almost all cases of blemishes.

  • Pulsed light  can repair blood vessels that have become visible
  • It can help fighhting acne
  • Facial intense pulsed light treatments are also excellent treatments for rosacea and redness of the skin
  • The skin rejuvenation stimulates collagen production to repair minor skin problems and improve the tissues of the epidermis

Since the pulsed light treatment interacts with the deep layers of the skin, it can be used effectively with other treatments such as dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, peeling (chemical and not) and fractionated laser that acts instead on the first layer of the skin, the epidermis.

Do you need a wrinkle filler

Over the past few years, wrinkle fillers have been frequently hitting the headlines.

Wrinkle fillers were rapidly developed after products such as Restylane and other injectable facial fillers proved popular.

Topical wrinkle fillers are light weight anti aging creams or gels that can be applied anywhere on the face to help to temporarily conceal wrinkles.

These products can be applied anywhere where wrinkles are found, typically around the eye area, across the forehead and around the mouth.

There are two ways in which wrinkle fillers work. Like conventional anti aging moisturizers they plump up the skin in the area where they have been applied.

The difference is that winkle fillers contain silicone which fills in the wrinkle in a way which is not too dissimilar to filling in cracks in walls!

The majority of wrinkle fillers also contain optical pigments – minute, light reflecting particles which bounce light away from the shadow caused by a wrinkle, ensuring that wrinkles appear less conspicuous to the unaided eye.

Some of the most effective fillers also contain active anti aging ingredients which offer long lasting benefits to the skin.

When applied under facial make up, wrinkle fillers create a silky-smooth, faultless appearance. However, if wrinkle fillers are to be used as an all over primer for make up, this may prove a great expense.

Many brands of wrinkle fillers can be used on top of make up, enabling your skin to be touched up throughout the day, whenever required.

You may now be asking yourself whether you really require a wrinkle filler.

A wrinkle filler is yet another anti aging product to add to your collection and using many different products daily can lead to your skin becoming confused.

The majority of wrinkle fillers will not deliver the same level of long lasting anti aging benefits that a high quality face serum will. This means that you will have to weigh up the benefits of a face serum with those of a wrinkle filler and if you have to chose between the two, your best option is to select the face serum.
